Our Charges

Most less serious cases are dealt with in the Magistrates’ Court and are concluded in one or two hearings.

We will always assess whether you are eligible for public funding, known as Legal Aid, and help you with the application forms. However, if you are not eligible for Legal Aid and you wish to instruct us on a private, fee-paying basis we will usually agree a fixed fee in advance of the hearing.

Fixed Fees

For a guilty plea dealt with at a single hearing, in a Magistrates’ Court within a 30 minute drive from our office, the fixed fee would be £300.00 plus VAT. If the court is more than a 30 minute drive from our office up to a 60 minute drive, the fixed fee would increase to £400.00 plus VAT, mileage and parking.

If the court is more than a 60 minute drive from our office we may not be able to accept the case and if we do the hourly rates option would apply (see below).

Mileage is charged at 45 pence per mile.

The fixed fee includes up to three hours attendance, preparation and representation time at a single hearing.

Disbursements - the fixed fees do not include disbursements such as expert reports, medical reports etc. These would be additional expenses but would be agreed with you in advance.

If you have agreed a fixed fee and the case is not concluded at a single hearing we may agree a further fixed fee with you or, in some cases you could choose to pay an hourly rate as explained below.

Hourly rates

For a case which is not dealt with at a single hearing e.g. a trial, the following hourly rates apply depending upon which solicitor you choose to instruct:

Partners (Mr Gerald Armstrong) £200.00 per hour

Further details of our solicitors can be found under Our People and Who’s Who sections. The supervising solicitor in all cases is Mr Gerald Armstrong.

Disbursements - Travel and parking, experts and medical reports would be additional to the hourly rates, but would be agreed with you in advance.

Whether you are represented under the terms of a legal aid order or either private fees option, explained above, you will receive the same dedicated and professional service to achieve the best outcome.
